Transmission of and Views About Family Values in an Australian Convenience Sample: A Mixed Methods Study

Family values operate in both immediate (i.e., familial) and broader social contexts. This study used a mixed methods approach to examine forms of family the Australian context. A convenience sample 856 people completed measure about their own perceived one parents, familism. Using story completion approach, majority also responded three stems focused on held by fictional families. Quantitative findings identified relationships between participant parent terms gender. Participants reported high levels familism, predicted religiosity, age, being parent. Qualitative suggested that some participants were mindful discrimination faced families, but many provided deficit accounts.
